Placing code can be annoying; which code goes where and why? It can also be frustrating when someone places the wrong code on a mysterious page that you have to hunt for to either replace, remove or edit the code. Google has evidently come to the same conclusion and may be moving to a unified (one) code for all of their products (AdWords, AdSense, Analytics, YouTube, et al). This would make implementation of new services easier for the client along with an easy way to see metrics in each platform.
